It seems that after the maintainace work I've lost a lot of WUs. All WUs between April 17th 2005 and September 4th 2004 are somehow lost. When looking into the Computer Information page only 43 results are mentioned. I'm quite sure to have done a lot of WUs during the above mentioned time. If somebody is interested in having a look, my computer ID is 150845.

Would be great to have some feedback about this topic.

Regards from Austria,
Franz

The file deleter got them. They do not keep all results online. They clean up every so often. The hope was to only keep a couple of weeks worth online.

Your credits are still fine.

Hiya Franz... that number is not actually supposed to be a running count of your total workunits, it is just the current results for your machine. Our results histories get wiped from time to time to free up space, and in fact we just had one of those recently. Judging from your total credit amount, you can rest assured you haven't actually 'lost' anything. :)

EDIT: Ooops! Pooh Bear got me by six seconds!

Thank you for the quick reply. As long as the credits do not go down with the deleted WUs this is ok for me.

Franz

Hello Franz,

The way through the system is roughly like this:
1; Validate wu, get canonical result and assign credit to all passing validation.
2; Assimilator copies the "canonical result" to the science database.
3; Waits till all results either reported and tried validated, or past deadline.
4; File_deleter removes all wu & result-files for this wu from upload/download-directory.
5; One week after #4, db_purger archieves and removes info for wu/results from BOINC database.

Errr....Ummm....Actually, we lose the ability to research our Old results. Although, you are correct in that Users keep the credit. If you remember I've been trying to keep up with my research into past data and percentages, etc, etc. I've gotten all mine from Jan 7 to now. If I'd have waited a couple more weeks, the deleter would have removed them and I'd have to had started from scratch. I'm glad I did it when I did. Now, I just have to remember to get the new data every couple weeks/month before I loose them.

@ ifg@work, This is normal. The Deleter/Purger hasn't been run in months, that's why you got to see them, then when they turned it back on, they did their job. Had it been functioning from the git go, then you'd not have seen them (OLD results) in the past and not have thought that something might be wrong.

After the Validator forms the Quorum and the "Canonical result" is kept by Seti, then there's really no need for Seti to clog up the DB with all the results(returned WUs) from the past. So, the purger and deleter get rid of them. Your contribution has been kept in the form of the "Canonical result".

Hope this helps

If you're interested in your old stuff, you should use BoincLogX from the Add-On page. It keeps track of your WUs.
