hi, In my insain attempt yo crunch a few more units, and make all new warm places for my cats to sleep, I bought a load of older rack mount servers, compaqs and HPs, they all have pII 400's or 450s now, but the documantation says they can take a p3 800, do I need new VRM's when I upgrade? or will the PII ones in the system work?

Best bet would be to check the the manufacturer's documentation.
Early boards may require an upgraded VRM, later ones shouldn't. All depends what version they are.
Likewise, BIOS updates may be necessary, dependiong once again on their present version to support the newer CPUs.
