I was reading this thread http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=13867#101160 and everyone there is talking about setiboincdata.ssl.berkley.edu however, my boinc client is trying to contact setiboincdat!.ssl.berkley.edu and it "can't resolve host name" (duh) (trying to download a new work unit) is this the wrong server, or is it actually trying to connect to the correct server? btw, I live in Tennessee, and I have had LOTS of connectivity problems since 17 Apr. it works from time to tome, but mostly it can't find ther servers.... HELP! |

Hello and welcome Eric, all the info you need is in the email you recieved with your account ID and the URL. BTW: The (very good) manual for Boinc is the BOINC Powered Projects Documentation by Paul D. Buck and the FAQ therein. A quick installation guide in this is here and for windows go here, for –ux go here afterwards. Gruesse vom Saenger For questions about Boinc look in the BOINC-Wiki |

Yes, I would say the exclamation point should not be in the URL that you are currently trying to connect to. |

The URL setiboincdat!.ssl.berkley.edu is wrong, no question. This sign is not allowed in a domain name (related to RFC 952 and 1123). The sequenz of BOINC calling the servers at this moment looks like: 1. Call Projekt or Master URL which is at http://setiathome.berkeley.edu and read Scheduler URL from a hidden HTML tag in this web page. 2. Call the scheduler server URL which is at http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi or http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi and get names and URLs of WUs to crunch. 3. Download the Wus from the data server which is at http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/ or http://www.setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu i.e. giving a URL like this http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/2fe/26ja05aa.24515.12576.147152.167. 4. Upload the results to the data server which is at http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ too, but uses a CGI program giving a URL like this: http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/file_upload_handler 5. Report the upload to the scheduler which is again at the URL http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi or http://www.setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu This is how it looks at the moment. This will change when SETI@home Classic is closed andd the BOINC web site is moved to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu. This will reduce the possible URLs. ;) Greetings from Bremen/Germany Jens Seidler (TheBigJens) |
