Hi,

with linux box running boinc/seti (4.27/4.02) I get many times "Message from server:(there was work but your computer doesn't have enough memory)

This hasn't happened with classical SETI or with windows boinc/seti client. Box in question has 512MB mem, but boinc sees it as -0 MB ...

Is it bug or something with my Linux ?
Any ideas ?

Thanks, Martin

Hi.
I would check your preferences tbh. See how much disc space you are allowing. I cant be sure but I don't think this message refers to RAM. How many WUs have you crunched so far successfully....is this your first? Your computers are hidden so I cannot look to get any clues.

Hi,

Just for sake of testing I allowed 5G of disc space and happened the same ...
I've crunched some WUs ... It's strange at first a was rejected 15 times with above then downloaded 8 WUs and now I'm being rejected again.

Martin
p.s. I've unhidden computers so take a look ...

Hi mrt,

A short while back, I had this problem too. I tracked it down to being an access permission problem (due to how my linux computer is set up for security and maybe yours is too). The boinc program needs privilages to 1) execute a certain system configuration function and 2) to read the /proc/meminfo file to figure out the ram and swap sizes. So, give the user (I assume non-root, since you didn't mention who) running boinc enough privilages for these two tasks.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for hint, it seems that inaccessible /proc/meminfo is the reason. That brings another question, how to run boinc in chrooted environment (my original setup for seti) ? Or how to manually supply total memory to boinc ?
