Hi,

I asked myself if boinc slows the use of the computer down while I am using the Computer and starts to gain full power while it is idle.

Is that the way boinc works or do I have to make some extra changes?

brgds

Hi
Boinc runs at normal priority but its clients run at lower priority : +19 under Unix. So they are really only active when there is nothing else to run from the kernel's viewpoint. You don't have to do anything its all automatic. Hope that helps.

Things are not so clear. You should look at seti client with the top command. My experience with unixes is that priorities management is often bad: with Fedora on an x86 biproc, seti clients never have less than 5% of cpu each. With freebsd, its never less than 20%, and seti seems quite often to compete with normal priority tasks , despite it has a nice 19. In that case (freebsd/macosX), the computer slows down very clearly.
In any case, low priority programs may slow down normal priority programms because they use the same processor cache memory. You will not see that with utilities like top, you will need a chronometer.
