Message 90790 - Posted: 25 Mar 2005, 6:41:32 UTC
Last modified: 25 Mar 2005, 6:41:54 UTC

I keep setting the BOINC Systray icon to 'always hide', but after a re-boot it keeps coming back to the ststray. This does not happen to any other icon set to 'always hide'.

Any ideas?

TIA

I tried several times after reading your post. BOINC must be coded to default the setting to "hide when inactive" as it always reset to that after a reboot.

There is probably a way to override the default setting in the registry but most likely it will be more aggrivation than it's worth to do.

To truly explore, one must keep an open mind...

So why would they code it like that? It prevents the user from having a choice, like any other normal program!

Probably an oversight rather than a conspiracy to remove end user control.

At the moment they development effort is being applied to trying to get all of the BOINC platforms to be using a common code base, each with a GUI ...

Once that is done, then the lingering issues of what needs work and improvement will take over ...

If it makes you feel better, BOINC certainly isn't the only program that does this :-) I currently have 3-4 icons in my systray that I either try to set to "Hide Always" or "Show always" and they end up going back to "Hide when inactive" whenever I reboot the computer (which granted isn't all that often).

If you install boinc as a service then the icon is gone and Boinc and Seti run fine.
