I've been running Seti for years. I've tried converting to BOINC. It doesn't remember account keys or projects. It doesn't appear to run consistently. I'm not interested in reading manuals or spending time on this. The question is whether you are interested enough in my participation, and the participation of lots of just ordinary folks who run Seti as something sort of for fun but aren't going to spend any time on it. If you are you will do something about BOINC. If you aren't, well, there are lots of other screen savers. |

I understand your frustration, but don't give up the ship just yet! BOINC isn't working all that well for anybody lately, especially newbies, since we have to download all the initial program stuff and downloads from SETI are kind of sporadic right now. I set everything up yesterday and it took a good four hours of waiting and error messages before anything even started downloading to my machine, but once it did it all worked fine. Like John asked, what specific issues are you having? Dig |

BOINC isn't working all that well for anybody lately, especially newbies, since we have to download all the initial program stuff and downloads from SETI are kind of sporadic right now. I have been hearing that for almost a year now. How long should one hold on grasping at straws? BOINC just never seems to work all that well. If it's not odd client quirks, it is the servers and related stuff not working. Was Classic perfect, no, but BOINC is like a beta gone bad. I check back once a month or so, and read the issues lists. The infastructure has not run for a few months without issue, and the client software has yet to stabalise. When the day comes that Classic seti goes away, I'll try converting one lab again, and if it does not work I'll give up. A key feature Classic had that BOINC misses, is to make good use of a computers free time, not the users. |
