There are too many download failures due to people not upgrading their client.
These bugs in previous versions CC client are clearly visible in trouble times when to many clients wants to communicate with server.

Some WU's have up to 6 dl errors and will be invalid if not changing validation policy.

At least make CC 4.19+ mandatory to force people to ugrade and avoid these errors.

can't make anything mandatory for a completely volunteer project. Instead, what they should do is put some sort of link on the mainpage that indicates what is the current Boinc Appl. available and then have it link to the download page. They could also make a notice in the "latest news" portion. It's old news but it also wasn't publicly announced.

Berkeley can instruct scheduler not to give work to clients before 4.19. This way they can make it mandatory and force users to upgrade.

Otherwise a lot of WU's will go down the drain and there will soon be many "where is my credit" whiners here.

Since the SETI team is going to release the new BOINC manager 4.2x "soon" (it seems the late february launch was optimistic), they might not want to force people to upgrade twice in a short time.

Have checked more than 20 WU's I have dl, ending with 4 to 7.
All errored dl were made with 4.09 or 4.13 .
Of course some WU's were not errored out with these CC, many has.
And guess what. No errors with 4.19 .

I wonder how much of that is due to the amount of 4.09 and 4.13 clients out there versus the amount of 4.19 clients. Many casual users (myself included) wouldn't keep tabs on what the latest version of boinc would be, so they wouldn't upgrade unless their current boinc told them so.

Nevertheless, I'm hoping a newer version will be an improvement, so I've just upgraded from 4.13 to 4.19 (my old client finally managed to upload all my processed results, and the upgrade nicely kept my already downloaded queue). So your post had some effect, Colt. ;)
