It is the name boinc gets from your system using gethostmyname() function. I've had the same issue and I solved it. I changed the /etc/hosts file by changing the definition which belongs to IP 127.0.0.1. But I can't tell you and more specificaly as I don't remember which host was that.

In Fedora core3 x86-64 they seem to have decided to totally ignore the /etc/hostname and etc/domainname files. I had to set the host name through the boot manager. Its really fun to try to put a share out on a computer called localhost. where does smb://localhost/share really exist? If any Fedora people read this, DO NOT SET THE DEFAULT HOSTNAME TO LOCALHOST!

Yes. `localhost` is a stand-in token for 127.0.0.1, but you already knew that, so I'm gonna leave it at that.

BTW: Have you had any sound problems with FC3?

Hard to tell, didn't have speakers on that computer. About the localhost, I tried to put some files on the linux_64 system and thats how I found out they used a stupid default. I used the windows network neighborhood to connect to the so named localhost system and it would loopback to the same computer. I was going through the setup pretty fast and don't remember seeing the set hostname screen.

If you boot graphically you should see the host name and domain at the login screen. ls /etc/*host* and you'll see the files that need to be checked (host.conf?).

I ask about FC's sound because it's the only thing that flat-out will not work (This is YDL4/FC2 and Red Hat's FC3/PPC)
