I swear, if the folks at Berkeley sent Woody a bunch of beautiful women and a small team of experts to think of ways for them to be nice to him, he'd find a reason to complain.

This should be pretty easy to fix: Just drop the check of the major version, give the communication protocol
it's own version numbering instead, and communicate it.
If the client doesn't send a version number: use the old protocol, if it does, act accordingly.

And when you're at it, encapsulate the comms in a class. This allows you to have different protocol versions available at the same time,
and make graceful transitions from old to new protocols.

Regards Hans

Does this mean that with a non-English version of Windows XP Home, in which it's impossible to create groups, and has "Users" translated, it's impossible to use the new version?

For anyone not happy with the new look of the manager, try Boincview. I've been using it for a while, and like it way better than the manager. It displays all my machines at once and allows me to sort anyway I like. It also tends to show a lot more information than the manager does. The only thing it doesn't seem to do is show the graphice, which I can't display anyway as I tun Boinc as a service (option 3 on the install). I don't have the link handy right now, but hopefully someone else can provide it.
//

just wanted to mention, everybody is free to code his/her own gui, with the
displayed values and the function his/her is considering as useful.

Just a fact, not a complain, *I* am happy with 4.66 (m$) don't see any reason so far, to change the *4me* well running clients.

Even if there is a new client version out, "alpha or not alpha", as long as it's not a projects prerequisite or a heavy bug fixed release,

there is basically no need to migrate.

Migrations can be risky and it takes a centain amount of time, to do it.

If you want to see the graphics, set the log on user for the BOINC service to be system and allow interaction with the desktop.

I know it has been discussed in another thread but wouldn’t it be better to have left the version number in the 4.6x range until the release version was ready and then renumber it. I don’t care how the version numbers are used in the alpha versions as the only people using them should know what they are doing and are willing to take the risk. That way the version numbers 4.5x – 4.9x could be used as many times as needed with the release version number only climbing slowly with no gaps in the number sequence.

Hi

Perhaps the devs thought they are near to go public with the cc.
But i think the one that goes to public will be 4.2x.

Hi

I had the same internal error 2357 after install as with 4.20.
But running without any problems so far.
The cc needs around 10 sec to wake up from tray but its a cosmetical issue.

I've notice this slow wake up also. I presume the /s switch in the shortcut is what starts the program in the tray. I created my own shortcut when I first started using the Dev line v4.56, because it always seemed to take a very long time for information to show up when I started the program minimized. It still take up to a minute, on the first run after the installation of new CC updates.

4.21 will not be going public as there are a couple of bug fixes that were not copied over from 4.66.

Ditto 4.21 + suspendable w/u and projects bailed me out of some E@H problems on one of the other computers that was "behind".

Don't really care about this personally. %% is displayed, ok w/ me.

I'd just like to see it resizable or a display on/off.

Suspended projects show here.

Ditto

Are we still on for a Feb 23rdish 4.2x release?

Hey Timmy, Nice Scorpius avatar you got there.

I've got 4.22 running fine on one P3-500 Win98 (not SE), one P4 1.8 WinXPhomeSP2, and one AthlonXP 2200+ WinXP home SP1.

see tims' disclaimer about developmental software (which this is) doing bad things.

PS, Tim shouldn't you start a thread with the 4.22 in the title? Someone is going to..... You should know that, my friend. lol But then again, even if you do, someone else will probably start one. hehehehe
