Hi,

you can savely uninstall the old version through Add/Remove Programs in the control panel. After that simply install the new version into the same directory as the old one and it will pick up where you left off.

Your current work units will not be deleted by uninstalling your old version - only if you manually delete or empty the installation directory.

Scott,

You can use the Windows Add/Remove programs tool on BOINC Seti@Home without worry. It will remove the executables but leave your currently cached WU's directory intact. After you've uninstalled one BOINC version, simple install another and it will pick up with your current WU's in progress without missing a beat.

The only danger is when you manually delete the BOINC folder or certain subfolders.

[Broken record on]
I have pointed this out several times around here and shall do so once again.

4.5x is ALPHA software. If you are overly concerned about losing in-progress work units and credit, YOU SHOULD NOT RUN IT! Also, any problems with it should NOT be reported on these message boards but rather at the alpha project.

kzhorse, please do not consider this a personal attack on you. I can live with the fact that you posted this thread. However I DO think any mention of 4.5x around here should be accompanied by a reminder that it is NOT the current production version and may still contain serious flaws. I am just making sure that gets added to this thread because there has been some confusion around here concerning the issue.
