Personal background
I am from Germany and live in a small town nearby Frankfurt. I´m married and have two sons. Being a real Startrek and Starwars fan I´m interested in technic and science. This is the reason for joining seti@home and I hope that we sometimes get in contact with other freaks in the universe :-)
My hobbies are tennis, swimming and my motorcycle (Suzuki GSXR-1000). Every year I visit one of the famous Formula 1 tracks here in Europe with my motorbike to have a practicedrive. Also I drive to the nice Alps, because in Switzerland you can find the best roads with the best curves :-)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) I think that we are not alone in the universe. Nevertheless the distances are so gigantic that we probable never get in contact with other lifeforms. It is possible that we catch up a signal from other lifeforms, but the signal could be million of years on the way, so we only hear a message from the past. This is very sad.
The other point is that our civilization isn´t ready for a contact with lifeforms who are able to travel faster than light. We are too agressive and selfish.
2) Why not - we should send a warning not to land on the earth, because it is a dangerous place ;-)
3) I´m running SETI@home for a social reason, because sharing ressources is a way to make things better. Also I like the SETI@home screensaver itself - nice action on the monitor !
