Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
As Space is uncomprehencively huge place, a real cinism is to think that we're the only ones in it. I belive that we're not alone. Logics tells me that. And, also, as no human can understand Universe hugenes (beyond our imagination!!!) it's hard to talk and speculate about any sort of discovery. For example, if a species (simmilaire to humans) started to develope in time much alike humans have, and if that happened in a galaxy 100 millions of l.y. away, what do you think, when we shall discover them? Controversy... Isn't it?

Never the less, with a cold sence, I must say my own opinion, we will need more than billions of hours of search and huge amount of luck before we "smell" someone out there. Odds are tiny... Much like a lottery (discover 999 numbers combination out of 1000 billions!). You know that very well. Distance and Space volume is our biggest problem. Most certainly, we shall need much much better and sofisticated technology to explore Space in way accureate way... And much much more developed philosophy postulates and thinking (eimination of unlogical from logical), from a stage of human philosophy is developed today...

Also, when we speak of S.E.T.I., we must ask ourselves FIRST question: Does anyone out there want to be discovered? And also, following questions: Do we need to think about orhers in Universe, as we think about simmilaire species to humans (e.g. animals) - do they really need to be so solid recognizable and easy to be found? Are our search patterns logical and corresponding to some strange advanced extraterrestrial technology? Do those patterns represent our way of imagining extraterrestrial life (other species) or they represent something universal? Do we search in right direction (e.g. comprehention)? And many many other questions must be checked each time we try to S.E.T.I.
