Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe ET life exists and while I have great hope for SETI@home I don't think we are gonna meet them till we are out in interstellar space ourselves.

I'm not at all certain that ET is going to be beneficial to mankind. It would be great if they proved to have only our best interests at heart but I think we should be prepared for the worst just in case. "Hope for the best, Prepare for the worst"

I don't really think we have a whole lot of choice in the beacon department. After all we have been sending out radio signals into deep space for the best part of 90 years. And I don't think we are going to stop anytime soon. :) I think whoever might be listening is going to get a much better idea what our world is like listening to that than to any intentional broadcast we may send.

I run SETI@home just because it would be great to be able to participate in such a momentous discovery if even in only a small way should it occur during my lifetime.
