Profile: Capt Zane J Kelleher

Personal background
Capt. Kelleher is a retired airline pilot with nearly 40 years of aviation experience including 7 years in Naval Aviation, and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He holds an Airline Transport Pilot rating with 17,000 hours of flight time and has served as an Air Carrier line Captain in the McDonnell Douglas DC-9, MD-80, MD-90, the Boeing 727 and the Cessna Citation Jet. His additional FAA ratings include, Certified Gold Seal Flight Instructor, Certified Ground Instructor, and Certified Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic.

He has served as Director of Operations, Chief Pilot, and Assistant Chief Pilot for various FAR 121 Passenger and Cargo, Domestic and Flag, Air Carriers. He has served as Production Flight Test Pilot, Instructor Pilot, and International Check Airman with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft traveling in mainland China, Taiwan, Europe and the Middle East delivering new aircraft and performing various instructor/check airman functions as well as performing airline operational surveys as part of a Boeing Commercial Aircraft team of specialists.

Capt. Kelleher is full time faculty professor of Aeronautical and Aerospace Science at Everglades University where he teaches undergraduate and graduate classes in both classroom and on-line courses in aviation/aerospace systems and engines, maintenance and maintenance management, airline operations, labor, construction and aviation law. additionally, he is a member of the Master’s Degree Thesis faculty.

Capt. Kelleher’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional Aeronautics, Magna Cum Laude, a Masters in Aerospace Science Degree, with Distinction, with a Graduate Aviation/Aerospace Management Certification and a Graduate Aviation/Aerospace Safety Systems Certification from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, with a minor in engineering from California State Polytechnic University in California, and a Jurist Doctorate degree with honors at Nova University, Shepard Broad School of Law, specializing in Alternative Dispute Resolution with emphasis in Aviation and Admiralty Law.

Capt. Kelleher is also a United States Coast Guard Merchant Marine Officer and possesses a United States Coast Guard Masters License for operation of vessels up to 100,000 pounds and is a PADI certified Open Water Diver and Medic First Aid.
