Personal background
Bonjour à tous !

I am a scientist lost in the middle of nowhere in the center of France.
Retired now, but the Company I worked with exported 90% of his production and this gave me the opportunity to travel everywhere in the world and to meet people with other ways of thinking, other cultures, other needs, etc. And such différences "forged" me and made me as I am today. I don't know if it's better, but it is.
I joined the Seti@home project a long time ago, following an announcement in the Planetary Society Journal. At that time, BOINC did not exist. Because of the poor communication rates, downloading a work unit was an adventure !
The community was linked by a unique goal : try to help in doing things that would have been impossible due to the lack of official fundings.
Among them : SETI@home.
I was very excited to participate to this quest. Not because I dreamed every night of the Little Green Men who might exist, nor because I whished to be transferred into one of their amazing spaceships and later dropped down back to Earth whith Superman-like powers, No! It was just a matter to give a chance to the researchers to understand better in which universe we are living.

Very best regards to all of you.

Dr. Jean-François Tiers
