Personal background
I'm a 41yr old male, working in the computer industry. Currently I manage a DSL installation crew in a major mid-western city. My favorite past time is climbing on my HD Road King and cruzin' the country side. There's nothing better than a night ride in the country on a warm summer clear night and being able to look up at the night sky and just wonder .............
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My feelings on ET life are wide open. I can't believe that someone or something created the cosmos just to be a pretty night time light show for us carbon based life forms here on this 3rd rock from a small insignificate burning ball of hot gas located at the end of The Milky Way.

If you think of the billions of stars in just our galaxy alone, how many of them have planets orbiting around them, and of them planets, how many might have life of some sort on them, the numbers are staggering. There has to be something out there somewhere of some type. We are not alone.

As far as finding life, it will happen soon. Considering the age of the universe, we are but little babies still trying not to drool on ourselves, when we as the human race learn how to walk, we will be noticed. But we need to get out there and be seen, I think we will have to develop some form of faster than light travel first. As we stand now, we are nothing but a flea on the back of a big dog in a very large play ground.

Considering the time it takes for our form of slow communication to travel to a distant world, transmitting a beacon is futile. By the time our signal reaches somewhere, we will have developed faster than light travel and we will pass our own signal and wave at it as we go by. What we need to concentrate more energy on, is getting there ourselves, instead of trying to figure out what graphic symbol of intergalatic understanding means "we won't eat you" or "we taste bad, don't eat us". Granted a friendly message sent from our world won't hurt, but lets not dwell on it to much. Lets get there and shake some hands or whatever appendage they may prefer. And please don't forget our classic line "Take me to your leader !"

This is just my opinion, if you don't like it ... form your own !
