Personal background
I am a student of Computer Science, a hardware and software hacker, a web developer, and a firm believer in Life outside of our solar system. I think that we should spend an equal amount of time to solve the communication problems between ourselves on this planet, as we do to solve the riddle that we are all working on. Maybe we could call it WORLDPEACE@home, or something or other.
My current machines are:
1 - 1.8Ghz P4, 256 RAM, xp, 24/7 crunching (old SETI)
1 - 1800xp, 512 RAM, xp, 24/7 crunching
1 - Dual Xeon 550, 512 RAM, Linux, 24/7 crunching
1 - VIA 800 P3 256 RAM, Fedora, 24/7 crunching (old SETI)
1 - UltraSparc1, 382 Ram, debian for sparc64, currently down, but waiting to crunch 24/7 (old SETI)
1 - Sparc10, 128 Ram, debian, currently down, but waiting to crunch 24/7
plus many other development machines that I swear I will get working soon, but never have the time to finish off.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am a firm believer in some sort of Extra Terrestrial intelligence, let's just hope they're nice if we ever make contact. If the history lesson of when Europeans first came to the Americas is any indication of what a more advanced culture will do when dominating another, let's hope we have our own problems solved before we make contact. Whether we classify ourselves as Americans, Russians, Australians, Argentinians, French, Ugandans, Indonesians, Japanese, or whatever other ethnicity out there, we should realize that we are all Earthlings first, and our ethnicity is second.
