Profile: Jason T. Brooks

Personal background
I am 29 years old and live in Woodland, CA, USA (born and raised). I am a detective at the Woodland Police Department, where I have worked for almost six years now. I served four years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska as a military police officer ("Air Force Security Police" it was called at the time).

I enjoy computer flight simulation, because I don't have the money or the time (married with four children) to do the real thing, though someday I hope to.

I also just purchased an 8" equatorial telescope, which I am thoroughly enjoying. I am fascinated by the vastness (if that term even applies) of the universe. This astronomy thing is really astounding.

I began watching "The X-Files" while stationed in Alaska. I loved the show as it got me wondering about the existence of other life out there. I still watch it to this day.

During my stay in Alaska, I worked some long, boring night shifts. I found Art Bell on the AM radio, who helped me stay awake and entertained me to boot! When I find the time, I still try to tune in and listen. I appreciate what he has done for those of us who believe in the existence of other life.

I am a religious person, and I find it hard to believe that God, being a creator, would have only created us "earthlings" with so much real estate out there.

I hope someday we'll find out for sure!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I like the idea that if SETI was to discover life somewhere else, I could say that I, at least in some small way, contributed to the discovery.

I think we should do everything within our means to attempt to make contact. It would change life as we know it to discover life somewhere else (hopefully for the better; I'd hate to get "vaporized" by some territorial clan of space monsters!).
