| Personal background |
| I am a Math/CS student in College. I like computers a bit and have taken to using one of my computers as an alarm clock in the mourning. As such, it is on 24/7 and that is a lot of processing that was not being done. So, eventually I found a distributed networking program and ran that for a few months. But this one was in the search for a Methasene Prime number, something of a math issue, but not where my heart truly lies. Once the computer(s) are finished with their current numbers, I think I shall run SETI@home as their project of choice. |

1. It does exist. Well, life is a broad category. By definition, if we go to another solar system, and find a planet with bacteria on it, we have found extraterrestrial life. As we are not the first race to live on this planet, there was a very long time period where another planet there could have been enough scientific discovery for them to enter space. Our dinosaurs were not such a race, but there could have been another one somewhere. How and when we discover it depends on what the race is. If all there is, is bacteria out there, then we will only find it if we go there. If there is another that has mastered space transportation, then we may very well be visited. Then, if you believe everything told to you, we may already have been visited. Benefits and dangers, I wonder how religions would react? If we find and alien version of Cortez our way, then we are in grave danger. But I think it would be one of the most important moments in Human History.
2. Yes. Friendly messages, pictures with Forests, and our many different habitats, from deserts to ice lands. Music, a wide variety of music. As well as some Math proofs.
3. I run it because if we have been contacted, or are receiving radio signals that are not of our own, I would like us to know. If my CPU cycles that would be unused 24/7 could be of some use, then I would like them to help. I think the project is a good idea. As this is would have a large impact on humanity, there should be a way for everybody to help out. So far, I have no suggestions. The last distributed project was coded very well to not interfere with the computer's normal processes and run solely in the background. I have had no difficulties with this one, though, if I do, I will have suggestions.
