Personal background
Grew up around computers, and love them! This was mentioned to me in passing, I checked the website, and got hooked! I currently have 3 computers running (don't tell my boss!) SETI@Home, and hope to expand that to "help the cause". I'm a Systems Engineer for a Cable Television equipment manufacturer (the reason your cable bill is so high!). I am also an active Blue Lodge Freemason, love to ride my Honda 300EX quad, and my 2 kids. NASCAR (Dale Jarrett), football (NY Giants) and baseball (Seattle Mariners) are my favorite sports to watch. Oh yeah, and do I think we're alone?? I think not....
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
If I didn't think ET life existed, I wouldn't be doing this. I don't think it's a matter of if, it's a matter of when we will meet it (them?). Benefits or dangers of meeting ET's? I don't think even Stephen King has an idea of what the ramifications will be...although he does come up with some interesting ideas!

We should absolutely transmit a beacon and see if we get a response. Any message we sent would probably be detected, but not necessarily understandable. I think it would act like a ping beacon to bring friendly (hopefully!) ET's to visit, and enlighten us. Will it happen in our lifetime? Not if we don't start transmitting...
