Personal background
I am 78 years old (retired). I started processing SETI in June 2000 and am using a home LAN with three machines (I7, Core 2 Duo & Pentium 4)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am confident that extraterrestrial life exists and fairly confident that it is intelligent on at least some of the planets it now seems exist in large numbers throughout the galaxy. At present SETI seems the most likely means of discovery given that it is the major scientific effort directed at detecting such life. When? Who knows? Possibly decades or centuries into the future.

The possible benefit includes a rapid increase in developments in science/technology as a result of sharing knowledge. The potential danger is that earth could be overcome by a more advanced civilisation.

I run SETI@Home because the discovery of extraterrestrial life would be the most significant scientific discovery in the history of the earth and I would like to be part of it.
