Personal background |
I am a 28 year-old
computer security engineer from Worcestershire
England. For fun I like to take computers
and other complicated pieces of electrical
equipment to bits. When not starting small
electrical fires
I like to listen to music by the great composers - Beethoven, Fauré, Ravel and
Iron Maiden. I enjoy walking,
science fiction and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
My current hobby is researching into how to stop my hairline receding any
further.
I have 3 computers running Seti@Home:
Pentium 200 with 48Mb RAM
(average 194 Hours per unit)
Pentium II 333 with 176Mb RAM
(average 132 Hours per unit)
AMD Athlon 1200 with 640Mb RAM
(average 15 Hours per unit)

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Only man could be so selfish as to
believe that the WHOLE UNIVERSE
was there
entirely for our benefit
and that our planet was the ONLY
one with any life on it.
And naturally being at the
top of the food chain that
would make us the dominant life form in the whole
infinity of the cosmos.
Now I
doubt we'll actually get to meet any life outside
of our own solar system anytime soon, but regardless of whether that life form
holds an intellectual and philosophical debate with us or just flops about in a Petri dish
it will be perhaps the greatest step humankind will take
into understanding our place
in the universe.
I am participating in Seti@Home because it
will only be through co-operation,
mutual understanding and the willingness to take bold steps
that mankind will make those great leaps, after all, what would the world be
like if, on 11th October 1492,
Christopher Columbus had said to his men
"OK
lads, it doesn't look like we're going to find much out here, lets turn around
and we can be home in time for Christmas". |
