Profile: Viv Langham & Graham Hope

Personal background
We are old friends, living in an inner-city suburb of Perth, capital city of Western Australia, with my (Viv) two cats, Bob & Reno. While we're both unable to work, we spend a lot of time pottering around the garden. In my case, this is in order to tend plants, however Graham also sneaks out in the wee hours with Astronomy text and red cellophane-covered torch in hand to observe the heavens. Often I wake to have him rave at me about some particularly stunning meteors he observed at 2.58am. I tend to smile and nod a lot. No, I AM interested in the heavens - just not obsessed!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
While our record shows that we only enrolled in Seti@home today, we actually began using it a fair few years back. Unfortunately, I had to reformat my hard drive 6 months ago and the copy of Seti@home that I archived didn't work when I put it onto the new, squeaky clean, drive. When I downloaded the latest version today I couldn't remember what email address I was enrolled under (obviously not the current one!) so had to start a new account. Oh, the pain!

I love the idea of helping out Seti and hope we can get involved in ongoing projects, especially the Parkes project (Aussie aussie aussie, oi oi oi. Oops, came over all patriotic. Don't know what's wrong with me.)

The one thing I'm worried about is that if we FIND extra-terrestrials they will in some way offend or disturb certain powers that be, who will find it necessary to "whup their arses", or whatever their equivalent to "arse" is... Which all makes me think of the kind of thing you used to hear in old Sci Fi films: "Mankind is just not ready..."
