Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think there is intelligent life out there, but they would only have to be 100 years behind us, technologically, to make it impossible to communicate with them. Conversely there could be civilisations out there which are a thousand, a million, or billions of years older and more advanced than us, in which case their technology could make them seem like gods to us., in which case they might observe us with interest, but not wish to interfere in our evolutionary progress. They could be so advanced as to be responsible for the creation of artificial universes, including ours, in which case they aren't even in this universe for us to communicate with.
