Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1:- I have previously run it. I used to think it might have some hope of finding a signal indicating intelligent origin,
but now
2:- I do not feel confident it will produce any results, because I think radio probably represents outmoded technology, or intelligent life, if it exists might have evolved along totally different lines
3:- I have no suggestions because trying to think of alternatives really stretches my imagination past any logical limits.
Extrapolating backwards it seems reasonnable to assume that life orinated in the manner conceived of by Richard Dawkins, naturally here on earth.
By extrapolating backwards I mean that one is assuming that the same Philosophy/methodology that has let to our current state of knowledge is assumed to continue to work as we(mankind) seek to understand the origins of the universe, and abiogenisis.
If one makes that assumption it appears reasonable to assume that as space is so vast, that it is likely that life started in other locations than on earth, and in some cases this might have led to intelligent life, and indeed technologically capable life, which might use the medium of radio.

So the only suggestion is to carry on sampling the skies for the telltale signal. |
