Personal background
22 years old, born in Hartford, CT, although I've lived in Portland, OR for most of my life.

I am currently a student at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, OR working towards my Computer Information Systems degree.

I became interested in space a couple years back, after taking the only Astronomy class my college has. We had one of the few planetariums in Oregon, and that class sparked my interest in any and all things space related.

I enjoy video games, reading, playing basketball, watching movies/tv-shows and airsoft. I WANT to purchase my own telescope to learn more about the night sky, but the fact that I live near the city with a lot of light pollution, and money issues have both contributed to put that dream on hold.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because I believe that every bit makes a difference. The staggering amounts of data collected by SETI requires tons of processing power to, well, process. I believe that everyone should be running SETI@home, or for that matter, any of the other BOINC programs while their computer is not in use.

Space should be humanities focus. It should be our future, but with the way our country is going, I don't think it will be anytime soon. Discovering planets with resources and colonizing them could go a long way towards relieving the problems here at home. Overpopulation and dwindling natural resources will begin to become an issue within the next 100-200 years, and we can solve these by getting the hell off our planet.

If there is intelligent life out there, or more specifically intelligent life that is able to traverse the galaxy could theoretically help us reach these goals sooner. Although the reality of space travel can be harsh (such as it taking hundreds, or even thousands of years to travel to distant stars, even with an engine that can go as fast as the speed of light) I believe that there is life out there. The universe is just too big for only us to be in it. And that's where SETI comes in, and also where I believe that every person out there can make a difference by running SETI@home.
