I am a university lecturer and researcher - studying life here on earth, specifically, the ecology, conservation and management of mammals. But, who with an inquiring mind has not wondered about the possibility of life on other planets?
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am intrigued by the SETI program - not just because they are asking the big questions, or because they are posing testable hypotheses about the existence of life elsewhere in the cosmos, and collecting scientific data to test that hypothesis, but also the fact that they are engaging the community in a huge collaborative experiment. Oh, and a confession - 'Contact' is my all-time favourite movie - so I am obviously interested in the real SETI, and what they might discover about the universe!
