Personal background
I'm a Computer Programmer, most of my work is to do with accounts packages, and lately have been looking at ways for our customers to look up their details on a web site.

Computing is my greatest hobby, but I also love growing trees and travelling.I have a crazy family, wide variety of intersts and opinions, but we all seem to get along. I live in South West London and suffer like so many city dwellers, from too much traffic and noise. I've started to cycle to work, it makes so much sense.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run Setiathome on my Linux PC, it's a lot faster than the Windows setup, and doesn't crash on a regular basis. Because the Linux system is so stable I'm happy to leave it running all day to get through those work packages.

I've learnt a lot about Linux by setting up this program, and I've gained a great deal of satisfaction from taking part in a worldwide project that draws so many different people together, albeit in a very tenuous way. One day this project may help to draw different planets together - now there's a thought!

I feel that ET life must exist, the universe is so huge and nature so adaptable and clever, the thought of us being the only ones is even more mind boggling than being part of a vast interstellar community.

We ought to transmit a beacon for others to find. That way we can control what we send. So far all they will be getting is a huge mix of content from 50 odd years of uncontrolled broadcasting. I don't know what we should send though, better minds that mine could sort that out. I just hope it will be friendly, and well received!
