Profile: Duncan R. Green

Personal background
Missile Technician 3rd Class Duncan R. Green, United States Navy. In since September 2006.

Network administrator/network security/IT.

People call me 'Hack', because I specialize in getting into things. Lock picks and computers are my forte.

I love computers (I've got two laptops, two PCs, and a PocketPC), and I've been building them since 3rd grade. I also love hiking, camping, and reading good books (sci-fi, fantasy, military history, etc). I'm currently buried in John Ringo's books, but I'm also a fan of Garth Nix, Heinlein, Asimov, Niven, and John Varley - among many others.

I drive a poor beat up 2000 Kia Sephia named 'Sophie' who somehow runs on very little gasoline, a mostly-dead clutch, and 10k miles overdue on an oil change. For the amount of times she's saved my life, I should take better care of her.

I also have a baby boy on the way. Due date is currently Thanksgiving. Oh joy.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home for several reasons:

1. it gives me a warm fuzzy
2. my computers (two PCs and two laptops) are idle a lot so I might as well give them something to do
3. i hope (probably in vain) that one of my computers will some day find or help to find extraterrestrial life
4. it looks cool
