Personal background
Hi there,

i'm Jan, living in Groningen, the Netherlands. I occupie myself (and others) with marketing communication and grapic design, Living together with the most beautifull girl in the world, have two lovely kids from a previous marriage.
Allways curious. Wanting to know what happens in the neighbourhood and the 'larger' neighbourhood. Furtheron i like to read, listen to music, travel, sport, love, have sex, eat, breath and drink, do nothing, etc. In other words: i am a very common guy, just like all other common guys (and girls).

Enough about that. Why am i participating in this project? Well, that's simple.
Every time i move over to an other place to live, i like to be polite. I knock at the door and introduce myself to the neighbours at the left and at the right, etc. Curious who they are. Somtimes, there is a 'click', and some times we become acquainted, and on some occasions even friends. That's nice. We give eachother good times, eat, drink and talk together and learn from eachother on many subjects. Do i have to say more? It's exiting to meet new people from all over the world and far beyond, how many fingers and toes they have is not that important. So i like to participate. Curious if someone out there is making some attempts to introduce him (her)self to us. And maybe we can learn something. Dangerous? Maybe, i'd like to say to the people who want to avoid any contact. But isn't it the track we allways followed?
Some people say that if an more anvanced civilisation meets a more primitive one, it allways gave trouble for the last one. True? True. But we are talking about short terms. Civilisations and species come and go, if we like it or not.
We will allways be travelling, researching, on our journy for knowledge and development. We just want to know, have to know!

And for now: we are just listening (excluding the random signals we send into space for the last decennia), so what's the point. We can keep the door closed if we want to.

If a siginicant signal would be received, i would be proud to have participated in a project to find it. If my children ask me: what have you done to create a better and wider environment, i can tell them: 'I listened'.

Back to work now, my earthly -and far from alien- customers are waiting to reseive my messages.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1, 2: see above.

3. A reward would be nice: the promise to share the results with the participants (and the rest of the world), maybe i am a little naive om that subject.
