Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
All my life I have always wondered if there is life out there, so I really feel like I am contributing to the realization of a childhood dream by participating in this project with so many others. I believe that eventually this project will find evidence of intelligent life elsewhere in our universe and I hope that perhaps that discovery would be the catalyst that begins the process of pulling all humanity together and begin the eventuality of world peace and cooperation between all peoples and countries throughout the world. I don't believe that human contact with alien worlds would present a danger to us, I believe that any species advanced enough to communicate across intergalactic distances, or advanced enough to have found a way to easily travel those distances, would have discovered the virtues of peace or they would have destroyed themselves eons ago. I also believe that humanity should construct a beacon for other races to find and respond to. If we could construct an object that could last for many thousands of years, transmitting our message of peace, that any results of it would benefit humanity.
