Hi =)
My name is Kathy and I live outside Chicago, IL. I am a 33 year old mother of one and a full time student (finally!!) going for my associates degree in computer science. I have always been interested in astronomy, it's one of my choices should I be able to go on to graduate studies. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

| I find it hard to believe we are the only intelligent life forms in all this infinite space. I could not predict when we will discover it, I can only learn, help, and hope I am around to see it. As technology grows, I believe are ability to search greater areas in more detail will enable us to locate other life forms. Ideally, we hope those we find have greater knowledge than we do, and could teach us many things. I run the SETI software because I know there is more data than we could hope to run in a lifetime, and even the smallest radio signal can be missed if the data is sitting in a database for years waiting to be analyzed. It is good for me to know I am a part of the number crunching, and maybe a signal I analyzed could be the one, you never know! It doesn’t require any special knowledge or effort, and could mean a great discovery for all of us. I think this is a great project. If everyone who ever wondered ran this program in the background, all that data could be read faster, and would raise our chances to discover other life forms tremendously. |
