Profile: Russell Turley

Personal background
Hello, my name is Russell and I live in Long Beach, California. I'm 36 years old, married to a wonderful woman, Laurie, and we have four awesome sons, Adam, Matthew,Nathan and Andrew.

I work at a small engineering company, Outten Engineering Company (http://www.outten.com) where I am a designer. I spend most of my day on the computer running AutoCAD.

I do a weekly podcast called Fat 2 Fit Radio(http://www.fat2fitradio.com)

I run SETI@Home at work only, currently on my P4 1.8Ghz w/1024MB and a P4 2.8Ghz with hyperthreading. We don't have the most up to date machines here at the office.

That's about it. Thanks for taking the time to check out my profile.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Do you think extraterrestrial life exists?

I don't know. The whole idea of Earth being the only planet in the entire universe that has intelligent life, let alone life at all makes us, Earthlings, very small. If we are the only ones to exist in the universe, man, we better do something to populate any planet that will sustain life and get there in a hurry. Because once this one goes, then all life in the universe is gone?? That seems like such a waste. Sure we have billions of years possibly, definitely millions, but we have done some of the best things in the last 100 years, no reason to think the next 100 will be any less full of inventions that can get us out of this galaxy and explore some others. Kind of incoherent babble, but good enough.

2. Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find?

Now that would be a waste of time and money. That's all.

3. Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project?

Because I don't know. What if my computer finds the "one" sign that another civilization exists. That will be something to put on the tombstone. "Here Lies Russell Turley, Devoted Husband and Father, Found E.T. on his PIII."
