Profile: Matthew Richardson

Personal background
I'm a second year at the Oberlin Conservatory studying trombone, musicology and conducting. My interests include all kinds of music, astronomy, literature, art, all kinds of history, philosophy, theology, evolutionary theory and chess. I am a Buddhist. Carl Sagan is one of my favorite authors. I work as a lab assistant in the Bio department at Oberlin and teach trombone lessons on and off.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because I believe the search for intelligence elsewhere in our universe is one of the most important projects we could engage in. The discovery of life, especially intelligent life, outside of earth would be the most important discovery in human history, and if running SETI@home will help that search in any way, I'm more than happy to participate.

I don't know much about the technical things that make the project work, but I do know that by sending to work to home computers worldwide it's making an intimidatingly massive computing project possible and quite practical. That I think is a wonderful thing.
