Profile: Katie Yates

Personal background
I am a 17 year old student living in Syracuse, NY.

I like astronomy, graphic novels, science fiction, watching films, making films, reading, writing, theatrical activism, learning about the environment and local music.

Activities: star gazing, making soap, video games, playing pretend, exploring the internet and educating myself about the apocalypse.

My favorite movies include Soylent Green, No Country for Old Men and anything by Todd Solondz

My favorite books include My Antonia, Sula, Slaughterhouse-Five and Wuthering Heights

Though I watch little television, I do enjoy Millennium, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and various cartoons from the early 90's

As far as music, I generally enjoy folk, electronica, indie, ska, funk and jazz
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I've heard so many times that the Space Program and its lofty ventures will require the cooperation of all mankind. The next steps in space exploration will rely heavily upon the willingness of the public to contribute, however small the donation. If this, considering my embarrassingly poor math skills, is the only way I can donate aid to the future catalyst of peace on this planet (finding life on another), then I shall do it.

2/3. I think the project is an amazing way to make the general public feel involved in something greater than themselves. Schools should become more involved and I feel the project should become more interactive. Perhaps, even, more personal.
