Profile: Mike Roberge

Personal background
40 Year old father of 4, which more often feels like father of 400. Married to a beautiful Australian woman. I live in Warwick, RI but hope to someday move back to Australia for good.

12 year Navy vet, Desert Storm and numerous other excursions. Sonar Technician by training but was a Micro-miniature electronics technician and instructor. The most fun I had in the Navy, besides Desert Storm (too many stories to tell but for a Navy puke, we were right in the thick of things), was being an instructor in Newport, RI at the Surface Warfare Officer School. The best outfit I ever worked for.

I'm now a Network Administrator for a fast growing IBM Premier Business Partner in Lincoln, RI and have the beginnings of a fairly decent lab in the basement of my home with full gigE and fiber connectivity. My wife's not too happy with me cause with all this cool equipment, the noise levels and electricity bills continue to go up (hehehe) but decided to dedicate some of my servers for the SETI cause.

I'm pretty much a geek, without the nerdy glasses or pocket protector... I love classic Rock and Roll, older metal (Black Sabbath and the like). Very much enjoy woodworking also.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think the SETI project is great. I do believe we are certainly not alone in this vast universe but even if we find nothing, it's brought together a huge community of people with similar interests and proved that world-wide computing can work... even if no money is to be made from it.
