Personal background
Hello -- I first learned about SETI through a link at (of all places) a site praising the comic strip "Calvin and Hobbes." I love that it keeps my computer busy even when I'm not using it. I have a fascination with space, and this program helps feed that urge as well.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Some people wonder what the point of pure science is. It's easy to forget that any scientific breakthrough started because someone had a simple curiosity, so that's understandable. But the thing about SETI is it goes a step beyond science. The existance of extraterrestrial life would touch us spiritually and philosophically as well. I think some people are afraid of what we might find. And, when dealing with the unknown, there are always risks. But there are also rewards.

I don't know whether ET exists or not. But I see no reason to stop looking, as long as such a project can be funded. The rewards of finding another intelligent life are just too great to justify quitting.
