Profile: Loida Rivera

Personal background
I am a Full Professor on Finance and Economics at the Business School of the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. I have been teaching these subjects for 17 years. However, I like to read about a wide range of subjects, just because I'm naturally curious and because it is important to know our Universe, where we came from and our possible destiny. There is no guarantee about our species dominance in this planet (contrary to the creationists' pollyanaish credo), since even dinosaurs became extinct as well as many other dominant species. But I am very optimistic that somehow, we may not be alone and humanity still must outreach our limited boundaries. Who knows, if someday, humankind can be blessed (or cursed)to make contact with another intelligent life form.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Please let me know your assessment about the future of this proyect. It is a pity that many persosns do not seem interested in it any more. And I, personally, do not trust politicians to be willing to compromise more funds for astro-biology research. Throwing away money in a senseless war in the Middle-East seems top priority to these microwave-oven-users-troglodytes.
