Personal background
Hi, E.T. searchers !

I am a 44 years old citizen of Belgium (And I speak French, so I hope you'll forgive my mistakes in English); space and its secrets have always been one of the great interests of my life. Though I am still quite new to SETI, I have been fascinated by questions like "Are we alone in the Universe" and the like.

My interest in space and all related subjects started while I was 12. I still remember sitting in my parent's room, looking at the first steps of Man on the Moon; that's when I first came to realize how small and insignificant we were, and yet how great Humanity could become, if only our positive qualities overcame our most basic instincts. We are sadly very far from such an achievement, but we are also a very young species with a great future - or so I like to think.

I do think there is life on millions other planets: surely whatever it was brought life on earth did it elsewhere. We now know that life can adapt to very hostile environments. We also know that many stars have their own solar systems. It seems apparent to me that we should seek intelligent life out, not only because it would answer very important questions, philosophical or religious - it depends on one's point of view - but also because if life did appear on any given planet, there is a chance that intelligence also manifested. We could learn much, and maybe quickly, from "alien" intelligence.

If you'd like to contact me,please write to : fosse.phil@skynet.be
I'd be really glad to have some friends among SETI's community, especially since I'm now handicapped and my social life's now gone to hell !!!

Phil.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
One thing. As far as I know, SETI tries to find E.T. by radio waves analyses, and while a good approach, It cannot be the only one. As techonology improves, scientists should try to find other things to do. We will soon have orbital telescops far more advanced than Hubble. Couldn't the data's collected by these new telescops be put to the same use as those collected by Arecibo ? After all, we all know how much our athmosphere perturbs the quality of the received data's. What Alceribo does, any space-located telescope could do better.
