Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I Think it highly probably that extraterrestrial life exists. It would be a bit ridiculous to think that WE are the ONLY life out among the stars in our vast galaxy.
I dont believe it will be much longer before we find some sort of life forms way out there. If we continue with our space experiments and travels, I believe that this is the way that will find other life, Maybe, probably, we will just stumble upon it as we go.
Possible benefits may include the sharing of perhaps a more scientifically advanced "RACE"'s medical knowledge or space travel ideals.
There allways seems to be the possibility that we may encounter hostile life forms, just as we have in the past at times in our earth bound history. We should still be bold and explore, but be cautious and aware.
A beacon project would be a great idea. Although with all the RF energys that are transmited daily from earth in one mode, form or other, it most probable that SOMEONE or SOMETHING out there may allready be aware of us, and probably are just as curious about us as we are them.
I run SETI@HOME to help toward monitoring and processing of the signals that we now strain our electronic ears toward the sky and stars with the hope of finding something wonderfully pleasent out-there. Besides, why not share your computer processor muscle while you sleep and are not using it, hopefully SETI will benefit from it. Share your resources :-)
