Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think it's a shame that the US Congress stopped funding SETI. That's why I joined S@H back in 2000. I continue to feel that the most monumental moment for our species will come when we discover ET intelligence OR realize that we are the first beings "like us" in our region of space, but not the only ones.

I believe that either event will force us to look at ourselves far more critically than we have. I believe we will be forced to change our path for the better as a society. It may be so we aren't ashamed of ourselves before our new interstellar friends, or it may be so we can defend ourselves against them as one united force. But we WILL have to put aside our differences and change.

SETI is really the only organization actively moving us toward such an event. The task may be overwhelming, but I ask you what can't be accomplished when a million people put their minds to something?
