Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@Home to assist the project team. My views on the project are that if no one is listening, then no one will hear anything. As to whether or not life exists away from our tiny planet the jury is probably still out, but I do agree with the statement; "If we are the only living thing in the entire universe, then its a pretty big waste of space."

I would like to see a few add-ons built into the software to liven things up on the desktop a bit. These could include the ability to automatically capture screens with interesting signals, an audio function to actually hear the recording, more statistical representation to view all the workunits and interesting results, and an integrated SkyMap to pinpoint where in the sky the recording was taken from. Finally, I would like to see a SETI@Home established for the Southern Hemisphere.

I believe there is also an opportunity to make SETI@Home more portable. Including provision to download multiple work-units that could be processed whilst you are away from an internet connection would help greatly. This way if you knew you were away for a week, you could download the work-units to be processed and then upload the results when you get back.
