Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
ET exists, but advanced beings probably have little in common with, or interest in, us hominids. More likely, we'll find our evolutionary contemporaries via light or radio frequencies, or extra-atmospheric chemical signatures. No more beacons -- we've sent so many "beacons" already. I read "Contact" LONG before the movie ever came out.
I used to run SETI @ home on a much older, slower 'puter, under a different name -- I ran 20 or so WU's -- very slowly. I'm back with a laptop running an old Intel Celeron, and an iMac. I've always thought this was such a cool idea.
I was an early member of the Planetary Society (mid 80's), I attended the META dedication in Massachusetts in the late 80's, and I was a participant in President Reagan's National Commission on Space forums. Now I'm just a passive observer. |
