Personal background
My name is Jason. I am currently in my fifth year (long story) of high school, and am 18 years old. I downloaded seti@home because I believe it is entirely feasable for extraterrestri... okay its two o-clock in the morning people.. the grammar goes out the window! i downloaded seti@home because i think its entirely feasible for there to be extraterrestrial life out there. i think that the idea that we are unique.. that our planet is the only inhabited rock... in a sea of rocks.. is kind of rediculous. thats my reasoning behind it. as far as personal life goes, my main hobby is playing the guitar... and i also dabble in c , magic the gathering, and other nerd-oriented things.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
2.) the intriguing thing to me about the prospect of creating a beacon is the sheer number of technical difficulties associated with it. I dont mean physically, sure we have capabilities for building extremely powerful radio transmitters, but i mean specifically, what to send. for instance, aliens most likely dont speak english. or any other terrestrial language for that matter. perhaps the whole concept of a language is new/old to them. even if they could understand us, what would we say? i am not knocking the idea, i think its a wonderful idea, but i do question just how we would ever carry it out.
