Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Personally, I'm what you might call a "doubting Thomas" on the investigations of extraterrestrial life. I have heard the argument: "if the Earth is the only inhabital planet in the universe then it's an awful waste of space". That seems logical enough, right? But, along that same train of thought - isn't North Dakota an awful waste of space? How about Alaska, or Antartica? I'm not sure I'm buyin' into that theory quite so easy. Nevertheless, I find the whole "culture" that goes along with the SETI project intriguing, and I'm happy to lend the extra CPU time on my P4 processor to the quest!
