Profile: Charles Gaylord

Personal background
Worked for ATandT Long Lines from 1948 until our office closed in 1981 due to court ordered divestiture. I started in Chicago as a craftsman and retired from Kansas City engineering. I have worked as an 'engineer' in thirty states on TD-2 radio, TH radio, L1 carrier and L3 carrier routes as well as serving as a technical writer for Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ. Nowadays everything that ever worked on and understood is either in a museum or a landfill. Currently, I work as a projectionist in a six screen theater in Woodruff, WI. My age is 81. I have run SETI@home, on and off, since its inception. I have not always had Internet access - it was 35 miles to the nearest Radio Shack when I moved to Wisconsin's Northwoods! The Telephone Pioneers group to which I once belonged seems to have gone poof. I am looking forward to participating in a ten day Caravan land tour of Costa Rica beginning August 15th, 2008. My computer will remain turned on, serving SETI@home.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because I hope to help prove Carl Sagan to be right.
