Profile: Simon Detheridge

Personal background
Born in Jan 1979, so that makes me about 24 unless I haven't updated this profile for a while... I work as a computer programmer, in Leamington Spa, England, writing PC software mainly for people with disabilities. I run seti@home on all the machines I have access to, including 6 linux boxes, all running gentoo linux, and a couple of windows boxes. As a result of this, I've managed to clock up almost 5 years of CPU time, and 3000 workunits in my first year of running the software.

In my spare time, I tend to indulge in rock climbing, Citroen 2CVs, and more computer stuff. Mostly more C, PHP, Java and so on, although I like mucking about with flash and doing computer music too.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm confident that extraterrestiral life exists somewhere in the universe. Finding it will be really hard, but if we did, it would be the single most important discovery humankind ever made, which is why I'm willing to donate all my spare CPU cycles to the seti@home project.
