Personal background
I live near Chicago, Illinois.
I've always been interested in science and I really like Seti. I've been running Seti in various environments since 1999 - but who knows what happened to those accounts? I've worked as a software developer for about 35 years but I have other diversions. I have just built an electric car and I have built things like telescopes, radios, steady cams and so on in the past.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI as well as other BOINC applications because I think it is worthwhile science. I like the idea that I can help just by putting a screen saver on my laptop. Then there's the idea that I could help more by running a screen saver on a system with 12 GPU cards and dual multi core processors. I like this idea but my wife does not. Anyway, it would appear that there isn't anybody out there - at least not anyone beaming radio signals at us. Then there are the whales. They can communicate over thousands of miles of ocean (well they used to be able to). We know they sing songs to each other, or something like that, but do we know what they are really communicating? No we don't. Without a Rosetta stone what would we know about ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs? It's obvious to me that SETI needs more research not less.
