Personal background
Retired Radio and Television Journalist, Truck Driver and Heavy Equipment Operator. Mensan till I decided to save the annual dues. I have no idea what BBtext is or how to use it. But I am willing to try almost anything. I am 64 years old, play with mechanical things, from battery operated tools to Automobiles. I ride a half ton 1500cc motorcycle for thrills, and am in the process of building one of my own design. Raced sports cars in my youth, and am currently involved in restoring a GT Coupe.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have not figured out why I run Seti@home. In 2001, I connected to a similar system searching for potential vaccines for Anthrax. It seemed that I was contributing a little to the project, and that feels good. I have no idea if the project was a success, and if I knew what good was done, it would have been better. With SETI@home the success, if any, will be global news. Lack of success only means keep trying. So, I feel better about myself when I contribute. I feel better about the things I contribute to when I know what happened. SETI@home provides both, and I can expect to keep contributing for a VERY long time. Or, I can expect to go to a party celebrating success. This works for me.

I would dearly like to know one thing. The times you are using my computer, day and hours. Sort of a feedback to let me know if I have been denying access to the machine by something I do when the computer is on and I am not doing anything at all with it.
